Will the tablet fit in that spot with a protective case on it?

It won't fit in the case !! I'm going to put it on the outside of the cover . We have down loaded some apps and are going to try it out in the boat today .

Android, or i Phones?

Ours are the Android phones. Which one do you have? If it is an Iphone, do you know if there is an App for it that would be like c:geo on Android?

Yep it ain't the Tablet or Phone

I know, because I have both

The problems with Tablets and phone is most of em are not water-proof, shock-proof

They are so complex that it will take you years to figure it all out on what they are capable of

I am getting older and do not have as much time to waste figuring out a freaking phone or tablet

Getting one of those gadgets is like going to a Mexican place to order Chinese food

Get a unit that is made to be a GPS not a phone or tablet

My Navi has all the topo maps and trails in-stalled, Its Water-proof, shock- proof and I can-not say enough good things about it

Sure I love the tablet, for surfing inter-web, watching Video, music, karaoke, e-mail and so forth

How-ever that is what is was made to do

So the Best GPS is one that is made to be a GPS

The Garmin Nuvi is a Piece of Cake to operate as a GPS,

So there you have the Best GPS IMO

I purchased a 7" tablet and will let everyone know how my opinion when I have a chance to really try it out .

Hi LBR....using a tablet is the latest trend here in Central Oregon, and the Nav device of choice.....any of them with "location/GPS" will work......we are downloading an app like "Backcountry Navigator Pro (about $11) for Android systems, and "Scenic Maps" for ipads.....the most popular tablet being used is a Samsung Galaxy4 8-inch (about $169-189)....after downloading your nav app, no WiFi signal is needed on the trail (no data used) and the larger display screens and detailed maps are pretty good. Ram mounts are used and battery life is long, and the option of powering it up with a USB cord is popular also.....by using a TOPO app like BCNP and also downloading Forest Service MVUM's, and leaving both programs active on your tablet, you can navigate with a TOPO map and see which of the FS's service roads and trails are "open"......

I took fast phils advice and purchased a 7" tablet !! Finally got to try it out this last weekend and I'm very happy with how it works . I did purchase Backcountry Navigator Pro ! there is a free one but purchased the better one for $12 .

The Backcountry Navigator is the one I bought also, still no dedicated tablet for the machine yet tho.
