If you want a VHF only radio I'd get this one:http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...xvrs/2900.html

And a dual band this one:http://www.universal-radio.com/catal...xvrs/0790.html

Both require a simple mod to transmit in the areas where you will need. These are cheaper, easier to program, and easier to get aftermarket parts for than the Vertex series. The Vertex is a little tougher unit as they are for public service/business.

    Here's the instructions for the 2900 mod:http://www.worldwidedx.com/threads/y...ars-mod.44185/

I'd cancel and get one of the ones in my above post. Otherwise you need the VHF version for the distance and what others are using.

My BaoFeng was delivered today, but apparently the programming cable comes straight from China (or Korea?) because it was shipped separately and is supposed to be here between 9/3 and 9/22. Looking forward to the programming/install clinic, Tony!

Mike, that's the one that I ordered. Except for the one I ordered said dual band uhf/vhf. And it was the same kit. Tony let me know if I got the right one. I can exchange it for the right one if I didn't. I know on rugged radios site they were like double the price.

Barry, I saw that when I was ordering. I ordered from a different company and will get it at the same time as the radio. Supposed to get everything on Sat.

I'll double check what I bought and make sure. If it's wrong I'll have them change it or send it back for the right one.

There is a VHF AND UHF version of the VX2200. You have to specify which band you want, but you only get one band.....You want VHF.

Thanks Tony, I'm trying to contact them now to straighten it out. Thanks for the heads up. I should have PM'd you yesterday before I ordered it.
