CALIFORNIA - Forest Service to Host Open House for Off-Highway Vehicle Grant

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

In early January, the Forest Service and Group Leaders representing the BlueRibbon Coalition, California Off Road Vehicle Association, Cal 4-Wheel Drive Association and Local OHV Clubs came together to identify opportunities for a broader OHV collaboration to improve those user experiences. Through this preliminary dialogue, the groups identified a need to work in partnership with the Forest Service to enhance sustainable OHV recreation in the area.

Based on that joint effort and information submitted by the recreation community, the agency and group leaders will be hosting an open house on February 25, 2016.* BRC has pasted the Forest Service news release below and hopes to see many of you at the event.

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will host an open house to provide information and seek public input on developing three preliminary applications for the Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Cooperative Funds grants that will be submitted to the State of California Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division (OHMVR).

The OHMVR grants would provide for OHV education and information, law enforcement patrols, resource and use monitoring, planning for winter travel management, and protection for both natural and cultural resources in the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The open house will take place on Thursday, February 25, 2016, from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Forest Supervisor's Office, 35 College Drive in South Lake Tahoe. There will be no formal presentation. The public may arrive anytime between 5 - 7 p.m. and visit any or all of the three stations that will explain each grant application. Staff members will be available to explain the proposals and answer questions.

The 30-day grant application comment period begins Tuesday, March 8, 2016, and ends Monday, April 4, 2016.

For requests for reasonable accommodation access to the facility or proceedings, contact Adrian Escobedo at (530) 543-2758 or email aescobedo02@fs.fed.us.

For more information about the grants and how to comment, visit http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=1164 or email Jacob Quinn at jmquinn@fs.fed.us.

Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
