I'm wanting to make this ride which will be my first one with a big group, I'm looking into getting a handheld radio to be able to stay in touch with everyone but do you need a ham license for the radios everyone will be using?

Local weather man said rain Friday into Saturday. Said Saturday is looking like a wet day. But no snow Temps in low 60's. Typical of spring weather in Nevada Thursday will be 80°

Yeah, they've changed the forecast from 40% chance of rain to 70% chance and temp 61. Might be wise to bring rain gear. At least it might not be dusty.

No, the radios are commercial grade but I believe they are preprogrammed for amateur frequencies so no need for a license. You can't change the frequencies without a programming tool so you can't start poking around outside of the amateur bands.
