Riley ranch is north of Coos bay on the Oregon coast in the Oregon dunes recreation area check out Riley Ranch coos county Oregon
about 10 to 12hrs north up I5 then take a left at Sutherlin off the 5
Winchester Bay is the only part of the Oregon Dunes I've ever been to. But August is definitely the time I like to get away from the valley heat! What is the riding like there? What is the camping like? Convince me, Terry!
You would love it Barry, campground is awesome, like camping in the pines, there is a lake there, easy access to the dunes, and you can ride on the beach. I wish I could go. [emoji106]🏽

Summer time is hard for us to go out with the SXS !! We have a houseboat event this weekend !!
Barry like Mike said it is awesome.
Water, power, no dump they would come pump the RV out when you need it for $5, or they use to not sure if they still do
They also have showers and flush toilets and a couple of cabins
Coos Bay is our favorite dunes of the 3 with Florence being second and Winchester being 3rd
OK, Terry. I've got it on our calendar and, barring any last minute disasters, we'll be there. Should I get reservations at the campground?
Any locals (Lance and Barb, Tim and Lara......) going to join us?
Yes Barry you will need reservations, you can reserve online at coos county parks https://hercules.reservationfriend.c...ordersourceid=
I have spots C07 & C11 for me, Barb, mom and grandma, There was only 3 spots left
I got the last site, but could only get it for Saturday thru Monday nights. We needed to be headed home on Wednesday anyway, so I decided that only leaves one night that I have to find an alternative.
Just found the alternative........ different site in the same campground!
Barry we wont be checking till sun the 14th
I knew that, Terry. I knew we needed to be home Wednesday or Thursday, and I wanted to be going through Redding on Friday (Ed H is buying my truck rack), so I decided to get there Saturday. The campground website mentioned fishing in the lake there, so we may take the kayaks and cruise a little!
what spot did you get?
cool, are you bring the general?
Map quest says it is 25 miles shorter, but only 8 minutes less, to turn off I-5 south of Roseburg on Hwy 42, which hits 101 south of Coos Bay. Am I correct in assuming that this way is not as good of a road as going through Sutherlin (I-5 to 138 to 38 to 101) so I really shouldn't pull my 39 foot trailer that way?
Taken both roads hundreds of times with our 42' toy hauler, and now with our Motorhome and Stacker trailer. No issues with either. Sutherlin way has more passing lanes, and is a little less curvy. As we are located in Roseburg, sometime we go Hwy 42 just to change things up. But our preferred way is Sutherlin. Wife just doesn't like the tight squeeze over the green bridge in Scottsburg. A little intense when another big rig is coming through at the same time. :)
I like 138 but the Bridge at Scottsburg does have a high pucker factor. Barry we will see you Sunday afternoon
Barbs cell # is 707 317 0266 let us know if you need anything
Now spending the night in Grants Pass, 102* when we got here a couple of hours ago! But with a 50 amp hookup, we have both ACs on and are quite comfy.
Should get checked in at Riley Ranch tomorrow early afternoon. Really looking forward to wearing a sweatshirt!
Terry, my cell is 916-759-0604. See you Sunday!
Turbo Turtle Tim: What day are you going to join us?
Lance and Barb: Come on........... we're only 45 minutes away!!
Have fun guys, wish I was up there. [emoji106]

This trip has Mike and Sharon written all over it!!
We may come down Monday and see you in the afternoon
Just now back to Redding and internet! What a fantastic trip! Thanks a ton to all who told me I'd love it, but mostly thanks to Terry and Barb! Great campsite, great rides, and great friends. Can't beat it.
Now we just have to pick a week next summer and book the primo campsites 10-12 months in advance. Who's in?
I was absolutely amazed! Following Terry in his XPT (but he was being very, very generous to me!) I made every dune! The one time I got stuck, was a low speed, off camber turn. The off camber pushed me out a little, and I didn't have enough speed in the really loose, soft sand. Couldn't back out because I was at the edge of a gully.
It feels like it isn't as fast as my XP was, but has more power. Does that make any sense? I could start up a dune, worry a bit thinking I might not have enough momentum to make it, give it more throttle, and accelerate on up!! And that was on my Tensor Regulators!! All good for me!
Sounds like it did most everything you ask of it, I'm sure it would do even better with sand tires.
