Its razor haven up in here after Halloween and all the failures that occurred out at Sand Mountain, so far I've been informed a total of 6 1K's blue the bearing out of the transmissions.
I have two cars from Courtney two cars from Pat and one from Moto..

Courtney's two seater needs a whole new transmission it didn't get saved in time so here's a list of the buildshttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/e7782d95e55d8e70ac020455485c8748.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/56cfa7934357badde9548bfcbd0deee1.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/6187b0315114023d95d8e66b5ad8831f.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/be48afad393566734a576101435b520d.jpg

I've tried to fix a transmission in this condition before by ordering a new case half and taking it completely apart sending it off to the machine shop and having it hot tank.

The result was under deceleration it had a horrendous howling noise, it ended up being so annoying I just ended up getting a brand new transmission and doing the bearing mod, noise gone.

This is a definitely must do modification unless you're willing to gamble on a $2,600 transmission, that's right they went from 2100 to 2600 gotta love Polaris lol

Typical area where the cases leak, just about every car I've pulled apart leak in this same area it's where team industries put very little sealant my guess is by the time your warranty is up that gives Polaris something to charge you for http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/1ca4b997aab1c3997a183691c4cbf399.jpg

Here's a little tech tip for you guys.
I've noticed on the output shaft for the secondary clutch on the transmission that rust builds up, I'll take either Scotch Brite pad or some emery cloth clean it up really nice then take a thin coat of anti seize on the inside of the secondary clutch and slide it over the shafthttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/69555c8989de998d57ef9af701a13bad.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/85d39b4b1bd7c7b1d4cd0db61a66436f.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/24737c580a53d2db96e5d8ef5a7db9a2.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/11/12/5175317829f021ad790628783f2850e6.jpg

Controlled force, is this a problem that you're seeing in cars that are primarily run in the sand or is it across the board. I've called all of the local dealers in my area and none of them have been having bearing issues on the trans. At least that's what they're claiming. I've noticed on a couple of you're pics that there appeared to be a bunch of sand behind the secondary clutch on the tear down. I appreciate any info. Thx

It's a problem that exists across the board,,I've done a stock 900 4 seater that blew the bearing out the side of the case with only 229 miles on it and it was driven only on his farm.

All 900 and 1ks are prone to this problem.. with trannys approaching $2,600, it's not worth the risk IMO

Hey Ben this is Jeff, you did the clutch kit on my Black 2014 XP1k over Halloween.
Looks like half of my pals dropped their cars off on the way home, LOL.
I want to confirm my "place in line" to do the preventative bearing fix before Easter. Easter is the 27th of March next year. When we get a window in the weather 3-4 weeks before that I will bring it up to you and then pick it up on the way out to the Mountain for the holiday. We will probably go out there around the 18th and stay til after Easter. Please pm me your contact info, the card you gave me disappeared.
I will want to replace any Chinese bearings in there...and maybe the motor mounts. Going to have to save some $$$ for the shock work.
I'll respond to your pm with my contact info...

From what I've seen people that get stuck in the mud and slam the gears back and forth trying to get out are breaking them.

It's just the photo regarding the holes..

The surface is strange on these cases,, some have a smooth like mirror finish and others like this one have that strange grooving machined look in them..

Team industries builds the transmissions for Polaris, I guess it's a way of selling more parts ....for them it doesn't make sense to upgrade the bearings, why should they more money in their pockets not that I agree with that but there is a fix for that as you well know

Yeah I think Polaris has always used cheap parts, I had a couple quads from the late 90s and 2000 , they would break all the time, stupid stuff like bearings, welds breaking, cheap parts, Polaris machines from that time could not come close to what the Japanese were making, the 800 and 900 RZR's I had never left me broken down, but I had to work on them all the time, for me it was every 2 rides, I would have to tighten up everything on wheels, bearings , and A-arms, and I don't think I really ride them that hard.
Now I got the Maverick, will see how it holds up, I only got 200 miles on it, but so far I haven't had to re torque anything , and I check it after every ride.
They make a lot of money on these things at least they could do is use simi quality parts.

I can understand (sort of) going cheap one ONE bearing and bringing down the per unit cost x number of cents.
But when it becomes clear that that one bearing is causing catastrophic failures in a significant number of cars and they just ignore it...well that is just stupid.
Lots of problems we, the owners, found quickly within the first full year of the car, added up to more $ saved per unit, and more frustration for us.
Then, to step up and fix a lot of problems when they came with the XPT (problems they should have identified and avoided completely) and still not upgrade one freakin' bearing is just nuts.
But, as has been said, nothing will change as long as we keep buying. the only thing that will change their philosophy is when their marketing plan fails due to buyers leaving for competition. Yamaha heating things up is good for all of us. However I plan to run my '14 for a long time, and over the years I will upgrade it to my liking...perhaps even have Ben do a turbo some day when I get the jet boat sold.
