Ok so I missed the last trip. My baby is just way to close for me to leave, but I want to get another trip planned that I can make. So September is out for me since my little girl will be taking up all of my time :)
However I want to make it to the Rubicon before the snow flys. I hear that some of you can take a trip on October 10-11th. Will this work for anyone else?

I can't wait. Ben, I would like to know what you did exactly on your suspension for the trip so I can match it. I'm guessing removing the sway bar made a huge difference
Beer Mod
08-24-2015, 11:29 AM
I know he pulled the swaybar and added some preload. He also runs 2" wheel spacers. If you don't have any spacers I'll let you borrow my set that way we are all close to same width. It will help when your picking your line through the rocks if the guy in front of you Has a similar setup :)

Ok guys here's how I set up my 4-seat RZR for the Rubicon. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/29/6ba2dfcb6e3ead99eeb3b4148715a050.jpg
Disconnected the sway bar and Zip tied it up out of the way. I also pulled ALL the fenders off so they don't get caught on the rocks and tear them off.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/29/8920000623f277cea60cf8ccc37eb62c.jpg
Adjusted preload (tightened up the suspension) by moving adjuster ring down raising vehicle for more clearance. As u can see in the pic rear is set at 8.5"
I set the front at 3.75"
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/29/74af21616fcb671f696a7fbf2d4a5fa8.jpg
Last and this is very important.... I set the adjusters ALL THE WAY HARD! This keeps your rig from going over the rocks and slamming down. Yes it will still ride just fine. Because we're only averaging 1.5mph.
With this set up she worked great and made it in & out of the Rubicon with no prob.
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the help. I set up mine tonight. One tire 24" off the ground and all 4 tires still on the ground. Pretty awesome. Still have to change the fluids and take off the fenders. Do we need to bring extra fuel for this trip?

It's sad for people like me who spent decades going to the rubicon. I started out in a 1968 International Scout on 33's then worked up to full buggy on 44's. Over the years I watched the trail become more and more of a hot spot for the big shot wheelers. I loved the crowds and all of the party's we had at the box! Just as the trail hit it's peak for off road enthusiasts rangers and sherif started to make there presence known. They handed out DUI's and arrested people every weekend. While most of us didn't have any issue with this (because we all should drink responsible) what we did mind was the talks of closure.
Then one day out of the blue I unload my buggy and head into the trail like normal only to find hundreds and hundreds of 5gal buckets full of small rock. I'm thinking what the hell is all that! Right about then I'm confronted by a man that says "anyone heading into the Con needs to take a bucket". I was unsure of what was actually going on so I loaded a bucket into my already over packed rig. I then continued down the trail. It wasn't till I got past the slabs that I realized a large crew of people with tractors altering the trail. At this point they wanted my bucket. They took what I hauled in FOR FREE and used it to fill in all of my favorite obstacles!!!!
I swore after that day 6 years ago I would NEVER go back! In my eyes at that time they ruined the trail and everything I loved about it.
Fast forward to today, I find myself curious as to what they have done to the trail. I am anxious to go back to the trail I've wheeled a 100 times. I'm sure the trail is boring for a buggy on 44" tires, but maybe it was for the best.... Maybe now more people can enjoy this amazing place. I don't know what to expect, but after 6 years I've made peace with it and I'm ready to go back for better or worse :)
Can't wait to see you all there!!!
Great story Josh....thanx some of the past history on it.

There can't really only be 3 of us who want to do this ride is there? It is the chance of a lifetime to be on arguably the most famous 4x4 trail in the country. Don't be scared. It's going to be a blast. Only a few weeks away now

Yeah I saw that Ed. I just don't want anyone to miss out because they think they can't make it on that trail. We will have an awesome guide and we will make sure everyone gets in and out, maybe with just a few more scrapes than we started with.

The Rubicon was definitely on my bucket list until about 3 years ago. We started from Loon Lake and it took us 11 hours to go 13 miles! Absolutely beat the crap out of me, but I admit it was on my 50" without power steering. Glad I did it, but don't think I want to do it again!
I'm in the same situation with my machine....don't think sans power steering and articulation ability I would have much enjoyment.

With a completely stock 570 there's no way it would be fun. We only have about 8" of clearance. With the stock 2 ply tires we would have even less clearance running on 4 flats. Lol

Guys, I'm trying to clear out the schedule to make it. Things are crazy at work but I want so much to make it. Josh, I too remember how it used to be but back then, it was make the changes or shut it down. Sierra club has a very strong presence in this area and there are a couple of other riding spots in this area that they are anxious to close as well. In fact they have changed all of these trails to seasonal. It gives them the right to close them at will up to New Year's Day and totally closed from New Year's Day to march 31. . This happened around 5 years ago.

Hey how about an up-date
Was there 40 years ago when you could drive all out and every-where, sounds like it has changed a-lot
How-many lanes are on Trail? How far can you go off Trail?
Can a stock RZR do it? With no-problem? Since they made a highway outa it...lol
Back in the day it use to be a five star Trail
Only the baddest would try it
So nowa days when you say Rubicon, cause of olden-days, It sounds so intimidating
Guess all the Police that are there for the Big Money to be had
How much Money do I have to Bring...lol
Any-way way-good write up Josh
