I just called the BLM and there is events there on the weekends of May 7th-8th and May 14th -15th . So it looks like we need to go on either April 28th - May 1st or May 19th - May 22nd . I talked to Sky today and he told me it was on May 7th - 8th but there web site says April 8th - 9th , so that would open up the May 7th - 8th weekend but that is Mothers day and I know from before people didn't want to do it on the weekend . I think April 28th - May 1st would be the best . But we also have to think about how much snow will still be there and how far we can ride !! .

There is dry camping on the West side of the Shasta Dam , there is a first come first serve camp area and they have a lot for over flow camping !!

Just to let everyone know besides the great riding trails there are also great walking and biking trails. I bring my bike along with my grand kids.... we do some trail riding in the SXS's and ride on the bike/walking trails...It's such a fun time and so much too do for everyone....hope to see you!

We will be having a Cinco de Mayo ride at Chappie again in 2016 . The dates for this ride are April 28th - May 1st .We will have a potluck on Saturday night and maybe a Margarita contest or a salsa contest if anyone would like to. This is a great ride with may different trails an rides we can do . There is first come dry camping there , the cost is $10.00 per night.

We have one that was supposed to close March 1. We went in early to sign everything, because we were going to be in the desert. Well, still hasn't closed! Supposed to close "any day" now!

Camping is also available adjacent to the staging area below Shasta Dam for a minimal fee. Due to Homeland Security guidelines, an access permit must be acquired at least 72 hours in advance in order to cross Shasta Dam. Permits are free and available throught the Shasta Dam Bureau of Reclamation (BOR). The Copley Mountain staging area is now open as an alternate entrance to Chappie-Shasta OHV Area. No permit is required to access the Copley Mountain staging area.

I think the policy has been there for 15 years, but nothing more than a drivers license and cursory inspection actually required for the last 6 or so that I know of.

Bob and Ed are behind the dam right now. We go all the time and only have to show are license. They do trailer and car checks every few vehicles.

NO permits are required to go across the dam to Chappie , you just have to have a valid drivers licence and you tow vehicle has to have current registration !!!

There was a hose faucet there , I'll have to check and make sure its still there !!
