I wouldn't care if there was no hook ups. Just would need someplace my trailer would fit.

We just need to be able to get a 2 wheel drive dually in and out without help from a dodge....lol

My problems aren't always the size of the spot , it's mostly the trees are to low or close to get around to the sites !!

Any-way Mike had his Hauler down there and it prolly is as high as yours

Same issue with me as Ed.. Sounds like a fun ride though. Also the overhead clearance from the trees. My TH is around 12. 5' tall. Dry camping is good too.

Mine might be that tall if I measured to the AC and the satellite. All I know is that I've had a lot of close calls with gas station canopies.. Lol

X2..the Ranchera is a nice place with good management and owner. .more of a resort atmosphere not like camping by the river...Not to worry Ed or anyone else..we will find the spot u need to accommodate. ..We all can discuss the ride at Castle Craigs..Would like to meet mike621..

G Billy are you looking at twin bridges or potato Bute ? Twin bridges has the creek side dry camp and lots of room for the big trailers . If you say at the rancheria you will be riding burney mountain area and a lot of that burned the fire last year. And I think they are still logging in there.

Yeah best is twin bridges, potato butte is to dusty , but I like the riding there, not to big on that side of hwy 44 but if you cross the hwy there's lots to explore.

I believe twin bridges would b best for our group..I can map out spots for the bigger trailers by the creek..we could plan rides on both sides of 44..We can talk at craigs and go from there. Also wait till it cools so we can have fires

Yes twin bridges is the best spot go in to the bridge and take first road to the left about a 1/4 mile is a large area creek side. Deer season this spot fills up. There's some good riding out there I have been out there with quads and dirt bikes. Hopefully I will be healed up by this ride and I can help with it.

I have ridden and camped at twin bridges I can get over to potato bute from there . And there's a small sand pit on the way over to the hill climbs and race track. There's a look out to go to . And a few other spots all we had at the time was atv's and dirt bikes we need to do some more exploring out there.

I know my way from Twin to Whitmore, Kilarc, Battle Creek Res. and over to Burney mtn. Could do a couple of fire lookouts and lakes in between. I bet we could get 70-100 miles easy! Going to check SXS access to another fire lookout in the next couple of weeks.

Anyone know the way from Burney mtn over to 89 through the burn?

Ed Harvey
07-30-2015, 11:35 AM
Yea there's a couple of was off the mountain to 89 but i haven't been out there since the the burn so I don't know how much of It goes thru the burn. I can all the way around Burney mountain with a side trip to the top .And I have went from Burney to the snowmobile park over on 44 once. I saw a sign for a lake at the park we didn't get to it we were low on gas . It's all fire roads and forest service roads . If this will help let me know when I get healed up I can pre run it and check it out .

This is the area Mike is talking about. It is the largest campsite I have seen out there on public land and in the trees.

Another possibility is the snowmobile park overflow parking. Easy in/out, good central location for riding, shade depending on time of day, and free. I stay there in the winter when the roads have snow on them, but not enough for snow machines. It is just a paved lot not next to a creek though..... If the weather is cold at night, there is a woodstove inside the hut and it's wired with lights inside....just BYO generator.

Lainracing and I found some pretty good trails up there before, we were on sports quads back then, one that stands out is the trail that follows the river towards the snow park, it got tight and technical in spots, we turned around cause we had to get back, definitely like to loop it out though the snow park this time. Some other trails that you can rock crawl through the Lava Beds. It a fun place to explore.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalkoh ya it get way-cold at night there in November

Make sure you bring your long-johns and a good sleeping bag

Or run the heater on camper all night

I am going to cut a 4'' hole in fire-wall on RZR

That pipe the heat from radiator to cab for poor mans heater set -up

I have been looking forward to this ride since Leo and Mike did a similar ride 3 or 4 years ago!! Unfortunately, I just found out that we have a wedding in SoCal the same weekend, so I'll have to bail. I'm really bummed.

It seems to me that a while back a few of you (Leo, both Eds, Mike, Rick, ?????) were talking about the possibility of a pre-ride to scout some of the trails. If any of you would be interested in that, let me know!!!

We took ride out there Sunday and the campground looks good no fire damage. There's a lot on the way up to the look out.The potato bute side the big hill climb is a lot steeper at the base and small climb on the north side is blocked off.The track is the same still a good spot for the kids. Sorry no pics battery was dead on my phone. But lots of room creek side and the top of the hill for camping.

You take the highway 89 like you are heading to Mc Cloud and Reno stay on 89 when you get to the turn for Reno go straight to Old Station that is highway 44 to Redding keep going until you get to a rest aera the road in is about 100feet past the rest stop turn left on to the dirt road go down the road until you get to a bridge go over the bridge and turn left the 1st camp spot is on the left go up the hill more spots on top of the hill on left and right side of the road start down the hill and the creek side spots are on the left you can see it's a big open spot you have lots of room for trailers there is nothing after that.

My directions to hard lol ...
I 'll try to make it easier.
I- 5 south to 89 east to Mc Cloud , Lassen Park, Reno at Old Station it is Hwy 89 and 44 Lassen Park and Redding keep going after you get to Hat Creek Resort keep going you will come to a rest stop and Mount Lassen view area Twinbrides road is about 100feet past the rest stop on the left side of the road same side as the rest stop.
Go down that dirt road to bridge going over a creek.
Turn left on the first road after the bridge.
Go about a 1/4 of a mile and you will be on top of a hill the best camp is down the hill on the left big flat spot and the creek.
I can go out there and mark the way in if you would like.

I was recovering from surgery and really didn't think about it . I would have to think it didn't because there has been nothing said about it .

Seemed strange since there were quite a few signed up and no activity.

Maybe nobody wanted to go cause you couldn't go Ed? ;)

We had planned on it but we were weather dependent...and when we were at SM...weather wasn't looking good for us to get back home without maybe chaining up
