The Volcano Ride - Sunday, July 12 [Archive]

Thought I would do a write up on it and share this wonderful part of our world

First off I was just there on Sunday for a nice 80 mile cruise on my old, slow RZR

Than it hit me that the mud creek glacier broke a chunk off of it back in September

So I went to go investigate it

What I found was one of the most interesting washes that I have seen for utv riding

I rode it some and would have explored it more, if not for the fact that I was riding alone

Would love to have a few or all of you Crazy UTV riders come up and ride this new wash its amazing

Will post more as time goes on

For now I will use the Thread for writing, posting pics, videos and future rides

I would bet for certain that that ten mile mud,rock,tree,and sand slide brought some of it up to the surface

Thinking will combine Mud Creek Gold Pan run for the next Day Sunday July 12th

Can Camp at Volcano Saturday night, Than do run Sunday Morning

I think Ed and Leo are coordinating their rides; Castle Crags on Saturday and the volcano on Sunday. Castle Crags will be about a 45 minute drive from the camping/staging area Leo showed us. I'm not sure exactly where Sunday's ride is, but all the way around the volcano is accessible (to one degree or another!) from the camping/staging area.

You can Ride any-where from Camping area so no need to worry about Trailing your rig

I will post some routes, google maps of the ride

Have found some pretty cool trails over the last 7 years of riding the Volcano

The Day of the Ride if its 100 degrees in Redding the Volcano will be a nice 70-80 degrees

Depending on ride Elevations

prolly ride between 3000'-7500' Elevations The lower the Warmer the higher the Cooler Like That

101 at redding right now

75 at snowman summit which is lower in elevation than Staging Camping Area

I am guessing it a little above 70 at 5000'

If you mean the trip all the way around the mountain, it was right at 85 miles. Of course we had to do some back tracking a few times when we tried a trail that didn't go through (or when we let Leo lead!).

Join us on July 12th Sunday Thats the very next Day after Castle Crags Ride

You will see a-lot of what this area has to offer

It will be all about cruising and sight-seeing

Hey Rick, were you talking about camping Friday night before the ride, or Saturday night between the Castle Crags ride and the Volcano ride? Patti and I are planning to camp Friday night at Castle Crags, then Saturday afternoon (after the ride) drive the 30-45 minutes up the road to the Volcano "staging area" to camp. Love to have you join us...........

Your about a month too early asking that....ride is scheduled in July, not June Dude. It is an awesome sight whenever we drive by on I-5!

My wife and I just got back from maui for 2 weeks. Loved it, but I love the diversity of the main land. From NorCal to the dunes in Oregon I feel blessed to live here :)

Just got back

Did plenty of pre-riding, about 300 miles worth

Found a close staging area to my place

I can ride right from my park to Volcano

How-ever would not wanna do it with big group ride

Had a good time working and finding new trails

You would think after 7 years of riding up here I would know all the roads and trails

That is not the case, in fact I still get lost from time to time and find new trails every-time

Grand-Son and I did 3 days of pre-riding the volcano and crags last week

Its a great, safe-way to teach-em how to drive and get-em at a young age to have fun with Gra-pa

All he wanted to do was Drive and make me ride

He is a very good driver for being a young 14

He will be my private chauffeur on these rides coming up

Went to The Volcano on Monday for First of the Snow Ride

Weather was great Snow was just right at 6000' elevation

Snow level down to 4500'

Not much there about 6"-!2''

O.K. prolly the Best would be the last week-end in May, put that on your calendar>>> May 28th

There should be plenty of snow to ride in plus about half the trails should be ride-able

Will do 100 miles>>> most the trails are fast for us slow guys and slow for you fast guys

I have it all planned out>>>will make all the right turns, well may-be!!!
