View Full Version : Concealed Carry Gun
Once in a blue moon, I will post up a HELP ME thread on a subject I know nothing about and need experienced recomendations....TaDaaaa, this is one of those threads.
BLR and I are presenting our case to the county sheriff for our CC license later this month and expect to get licensed then. Looking for opinions of gun make/models to check into...I know nothing about pistols except slide-bite hurts like the dickens. The smaller, the better because I know if it is too bulky for either of us, it will get left on the kitchen counter instead of packed.
What do you recommend??......own and pack??......would prefer to have rather than your present one??....features to have with one??......etc??
I have a karr p380 that I carry when I do. also have a clock 26 stubby that I like (9mm) . I like the karr better for everyday carry because I can carry it in my pocket and done really know its there.

If you ever have to pull it, you'll be praying that you can hit what you shoot at. Get whatever feels good in your hand, and then practice, practice, practice. Even practice pulling it, loading it, etc. with the gun empty! I'm not a fan of the .380, because it is notoriously underpowered. I have a Ruger SR .40C, and a Springfield XD Tactical in .45 (I admit, the XD is very heavy and difficult to carry comfortably).
This is a result of Lance shooting a gun and his slide bite.http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/17/9ec63180fffa69479208039e321db2b0.jpg

Barry now you sound like Tim . I can tell you for a fact that when you stick a 380 in someone's face you really don't have to worry about the power for the most part , he stopped dead in his track's.

Lance seems more like a sling shot hanging out of his back pocket type.

I have a Beretta 40cal - its a little bulky even for a subcompact. However, Its a smooth gun to shoot. I've been looking at at Kahr 40 cal as a more concealable alternative. Bridge has a .380 S&W that works very well for her - but its a little too small for my hands. When ammunition was a problem we had a hell of time getting 380, 40 cal was pretty easy to come by.

I think your correct Steve !!

I don't carry a gun day to day but do carry a 9mm with me when out riding .

I don't pack when I go riding, cause all my friends do
But when alone riding or what-ever browning 9mm or 32
Thanx for the input all! I expect to get my license, but probably will never buy a gun to pack...probably the safest for everyone around me.

From what I have seen your are more a danger to your self then anyone else. Remember Lance they make you shoot to qualify when you get your permit .

Lance, I've been shooting all my life, but I learned more in a one-day class (firing 250 rounds of .45 in about 4 hours!) from a retired military instructor than I did in 50 years of plinking. We did static, moving, very close range, "from the hip", around obstacles, multiple targets......... It was worth every penny, and I've been wanting to do it again!

Lol....everyone stubs their toe now and then, so I fit right in. I had no intention to do a hands-on testing to qualify getting permitted. If so, I probably would never get permitted at all.

Great idea Barry.....want to wait so the 2 of us have the guns we're going to carry first.

In California you have to shot and hit the target in order to get a permit .

Doesn't cover the west coast, or most of the north-east.
Go to this website http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html and click on your state to see where your permit is honored.

Utah is a good one to get, covers 35 states. You don't have to be a resident, you just have to take a half-day class with a certified instructor, who then does the fingerprinting and photos and sends it in.
I'm a WA resident and I got my OR and UT permits in addition to WA. Covers me for most of the places I might want to travel to/through.
I must say, this fingerprinting episode went much better for me as opposed to my previous one. I was soooooo happy to walk out the courthouse front door rather than be escorted to that barred room...lol

Resurrecting this thread.
In Oregon, they just do a background check. Do not have to fire your weapon. Also, you do not have to certify on your weapon either, you can carry whatever you want.
My daughter wanted to start carrying while she was at school after the UCC shootings. I checked into it and the school she attends bans firearms on the campus. But after further research, I found that their policies violate state law. An individual was arrested on their campus back in 2009 and he fought the charges based on Oregon state law. The state appeals court agreed with him stating that the university system had no authority to create policies that conflicted with state law.
The university system here has ignored that ruling and continues to try and ban firearms. They changed the wording slightly, and now state the penalty for carrying a firearm is negligible at best. So in other words, they know they have no authority to do what they are doing, but they are going to try and manipulate the student body with dishonest policies to support their political view.
I told her to go ahead and carry, and I will support her if anything comes of it!!! (she has her concealed weapons permit)

She carries a M&P shield 9mm.
I am actually thinking of getting one. Nice gun.
When I carry, I carry my PX4 storm (full size). Too big but love shooting it.
Lara has a LC9. Dont really like that one, but is small and easy to carry.
I use the XDS 45 or the SR 40c. My wife has the LC380. All are now off roster guns. CA sucks!!!
I see now that I can get the lc380 converted to a lc9mm. Ruger sells a kit for it now.

The LC9 is an older one and has a very long trigger pull. That's the reason I don't like it.
New ones have a nicer trigger on them. I could probably have a gun smith work the trigger though.
We were handling guns again yesterday at a store....confusing and hard to find a gun that fits all our criteria. We'll try again next month...lol

The lc380 has a long trigger pull also. That's why it's my wife's. I can't stand it.

Just buy 5 or 6. You can't have enough guns.

Mine rides in a purple, Crown Royal sack (curtesy of EPL), inside my glove box and does not get dirty.
I have a Polaris bag between the seats that keeps mine clean and dry.
