View Full Version : Failed Pre Ride
Well we tried to do a Pre Ride to Trinity today for the Cinco de Mayo ride but didn't make it !! We were about 22 miles in and my RZR died and the next thing I know was people were yelling at me on the radio that I was on "FIRE" and as I looked in the mirror the flames were higher then the RZR !! Luckily I had turned the key off so it quit pumping fuel and Len was quick with his fire extinguisher we were able to put the fire out !!

We may not have made it to Trinity but it could have turn out way worse then it did !!

Sure glad Len had quick reaction with his fire extinguisher and was riding behind you, as he was the only one with a extinguisher ,we were in one of the worst places to have a fire [emoji91] sure glad we were able to get it back to the truck. It was way to close !!
Like I always say the fire extinguisher you carry is only good for the other person because mine was surrounded in flame !!

Any idea what started the fire? You mentioned the engine quit... did the fuel line fail, or possibly the muffler area plastic caught fire, or a leaking gas can? I ask because the rest of us may need to check over our vehicles...

Fuel line broke were it plugs in to the fuel rail

It was the fuel line that broke the connector is right on top of the motor, easy to access with the cover off, if it completely burn up I don't think we would have known what caused it.

Like Bob and Mike said , it was the plastic 90 from the fuel hose to the injector manifold !!
I have heard of a few of those connectors breaking. There was a company making a billet manifold for those. I can't remember who now.

that is what I would like to get for mine !! I think Controlled Force (Ben) was replacing them with the billet ones !!

I just ordered a billet fuel rail and braided steel fuel line from SxS Performance. $240 after tax, shipped to my door... cheap insurance. Speaking of that, I should probably think about insuring mine too...

After We were out of the RZR safe I was really glad we were able to get the fire out because where we were out in the trees I think it would have started a big forest fire !!

Thanks Ben !! I'm one of the lucky ones that was to get the fire out ( Thanks to Len ) and was able to make it run to drive it make to trailer !!
It has minimal damage and I have a claim started with Polaris , we'll see how far that goes !!

totally sucks, glad it worked out for you brother. Everyone with a newer rzr needs to buy a aftermarket fuel rail RPM and K&T make nice ones

Ed did all he could, No recalls from what I understood.., however it still Happened..
Hopefully others that haven't done the upgrade will do it...
On the BRIGHTSIDE/DOWNSIDE.. for all of those that don't think it will happen... it can happen..No matter what..

I got my billet injector manifold and braided steel line.... only problem is that it has the same plastic quick connect fitting on the end of the line, so even though it addresses the common problem of the stock injector manifold cracking, it does not eliminate the failure point that caused this fire....

Hopefully with the new one with Billet manifold and Braided fuel line with let the plastic hold heat a lot better that the stock rubber and plastic.

I got a recall notice from Polaris.
I also have a recall on our Turbo !! It's a cover over the fuel tank from what I have been told !!

Friends of ours had their turbos done. They put a cover over the fuel tank on the passenger side. Quick fix [emoji6]

Sorry... it did not come with a plastic fitting... it looked plastic, but it is actually aluminum. This looks like the fix!

That is what i was thinking , but the curse of Fast Pat continued again today . We only made it about half the way before we had to turn around because of rain !! So Pat still hasn't made it to Trinity !!

From what i have been told trail is now repaired , got repaired or re cut during the Carr fire !!
