The Rubicon was on my bucket list until a few years ago. We started at Loon Lake and went in not quite 7 miles (don't remember the name of the lake where we turned around). Total trip: 13 miles in 11 hours!! It absolutely beat the crap out of me, and my original, non-power steering, 50 inch RZR!! Glad I crossed it off my bucket list, and no burning desire to do it again! Have fun.

I'll get with Ben and see if he is planning a sxs run through Rubicon. I am scheduled twice this summer, in my Landcruiser, once with Ben in July. I've been many, many times, and trailbossed 50 or 60 four wheel drive runs through, but only once in a sxs. Never hosted a utvcrazy event... I might be willing to take it on if I can get a little coaching from a veteran like Jeff if I can't talk Ben into hosting.

Go for it Ken, you’ll be a great trail boss.

I will lead one this summer if everyone wants. I can help everyone set up there machines to keep it easier too. Ben (airbus) helped me at the beginning and it makes a huge difference.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWe like to make a weekend out of it. We usually camp at the beginning of the trail on Friday night. Then ride to Buck Island Lake (about 1/2 to 2/3 in) and set up camp on Saturday morning. Then go out toward Cadillac hill for the afternoon. Then Sunday morning we back back to the staging area. If you don't want to camp on Friday night, you could get to the the staging area on Saturday morning.

I agree, especially if you have a group that’s never been there.

Having a couple experienced drivers helps. A group of about 6 to 8 would be good. We had about 10 one time. It wasn't too bad, just a little slower.

Yes. I once lead a group of 17 4x4's through and luckily had a couple other veterans with me so we broke it into 3 groups to make it more manageable. We usually end up with about six in our annual "jeep" run which is enjoyable and manageable. I mentioned the sxs run to Ben (airbus99) and it sounds like he would like to be included.

I just checked various calendars to determine which weekends may be less congested, and also tried to check out the UTVCrazy calendar to see if I could avoid stepping on any other planned events. The first part of June can be too soon, many years, the TLCA rubithon run is the last weekend, July is taken by The Dirty Dozen event, along with Jeepers Jamboree, along with the first two weekends in August by Jeepers Jamboree, and Jamboree USA and members are also in Winchester Bay for Dunefest. This leaves the remaining last two weekends in August, 18/19 and 25/26. It is extremely busy during Labor Day, and Marlin Crawler Roundup 15th/16th, followed by another Dirty Dozen run on 22nd/23rd, leaving September 8th/9th as the only "slow" weekend in September. My recommendation for best weather, warmest Buck Island swim and least congestion is one of the two August weekends, 18th/19th or 25th/26th. Any preferences?

Got with neil11975 and we set the date for August 18/19- stage at Loon Lake, camping at Gatekeeper (just a few minutes into the trail) Friday night, August 17th. Latecomers can arrive on Saturday morning and meet up at Gatekeeper. Camping at Buck Island camping area Saturday night. This is an "advanced driver" run so be prepared, as Barry (alfabaz) explained, it is rocky and challenging. Also be prepared for the cold, as it will likely be near 100 degrees in the valley, but could get down to the low 40's at night because of the 7000 foot altitude. Also, fire permits are needed, even to run a camp stove, and often, fire restrictions are in place by August, prohibiting campfires. You will need to haul everything necessary to camp, as there will be no access to your tow vehicle, on the trail, or camping, on Saturday night.
