So the last ride I went on to Monday Flats, I got a stick wrapped up inside my rear wheel, couldn’t get it out at the time so just road back with it in there.
Took it off at home and it groove the rim pretty bad, it’s not leaking air , but thinking it may be a weak link going through rocks or something, I also have one in the front that has some grooves in it also, what do you guy think? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171217/41f22559381ab7a26892b1f91919f80b.heichttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171217/3aeba4313ab41d7212e377e4470303ab.heic

If I have to get new wheels should I go with 15” rims for more room ?

It's hard to tell by the pick, but it doesn't look that deep. The problem I had with 15" wheels was that, not all sxs tires come in 15" wheel and the ones that I liked didn't. If the tires you like do, then it's not an issue. Just a thought.

Went with these for both our X3 RC's. They have 100% positive reviews so we thought we'd try them.

The kit looks good, I'm not running the stock wheels so it wouldn't fit my set up.

Oh ok. They definitely won't work with offset aftermarket wheels. Are you running rokblokz trailing arm rock flaps? They will help immensely from rocks getting in your wheels. Also if you haven't already done it make sure you remove the mudscrapers as they like to trap rocks in your wheel.

All probably go with 15” wheel , but for now I think I’ll just beat these up some more till the tires need replacing.

Most of the peeps have rocks that eat the rims up.....rims will look just like that, but that is crazy bad from a stick.

It was a pretty tough stick , maybe Manzanita , when I pulled the wheel and took it out , it wasn’t so tough anymore just all chewed up, if it happens again I’ll probably take the time to cut it out. [emoji1417]

I as well went with 15" rims to not have to deal with this issue. It is amazing how soft the rim material is, seen a lot of pics of them eaten up by foreign objects.

Sounds like grooves in the inside of the rim is pretty common, the rims are thin, hoping they will be okay for a few more rides, my tires still have a lot of tread left, and if I get 15” wheel that means new tires too, going to try and make it last till tax time.

Carry some JB weld with you and run it.. those rims are thicker that you would think but I have seen many that have trapped a rock, cracked and caused a leak... remember on our Verdi run Kevin repaired one with JB weld and it surprisingly has held up well, in fact he is still running it.. not something I personally would think of, but its testimony of strong that stuff is. I would be willing to bet there are many others with rims scraped up in worse shape that are continuing to get more use out it until they can get a new set... besides more damage is inevitable!

Yeah Alan, I bought some JB weld when I got home from that trip, just for that reason, when his broke I was looking at it, and it didn’t look to thick.
