Just put on a spare tire carrier from utv head quarters .It mounts about center on the rear bars and holds the tire about 2" above the roof line. The mounting bolts are for a steal wheel if you have a aluminum wheel you will need longer bolts. The mount still lets you see out the back with your rearview mirror . The price is 219$ and it is well made.

That's not too awful bad getting a thousand miles from your belt Ed....many get less and a few get more, so I'd put you in the upper 30% or so.

I don't have any clue about breaking in a belt !! I just get in and drive 6000 mile on my XP 900 , 4800 miles on the 800 S when we sold it and around 1500 on the XP 1000.

definitely worth it Ed, I didn't think I did to much to mine, and they totaled mine. was talking too a guy last weekend that has a 2015 RZR 1000, he said he "wasn't" doing anything to bad , but ended up rolling his machine and causing over $6000 in damage, and he's not insured. so you just never know.

Ed Harvey
09-29-2015, 07:06 PM
I'm still sitting around the house waiting to go back to work so I look around on the net one race team lost a pre-runner and the race rzr in the same day due to fire. Somebody lost one 2 days old and 2 burned in glamis. We have been going to put insurance on it but just didn't do it now it full coverage plus 6000 for add ons so anything happens it's covered.

Ed Harvey

These things cost a lot then you spend a small fortune getting them the way you want them and if something happens I couldn't replace it so your still making payments on a pile of junk setting in the yard. So I feel better now that it's got insurance on it and hopefully I don't have to use it.

I cut my front window, to fit the Mav front end, and installed some weather stripping on the bottom. Going to install a small piece of glass on the upper part of the rear cage, should be good for the VC ride. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/17/a49f2ed2c88fef99ecbea4d0713471f2.jpghttp://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/17/6a9d8cbea11c45c263ce345ddf6e59a3.jpg

Good to hear you got that kind of mileage out of the stock belt, was it really wore out, or could you have gotten a little more out of it, have fun on your trip. [emoji106]

I think a lot of it has to do with how people treat them. Also I think leaving the belt cover off in the sand to help keep the belt cool is eating the belts up ,just my opinion !!

Well I guess mine saved me some misery today.
It is in the shop parked for winter, or until I take it to Ben in Feb. I had just slid the garage door down and turned to walk away before the door botttomed out.
I heard a big bang, and went to the floor, I heard a big thump at the left rear tire.
The tubular shaft that runs across the header beam that has the two springs on it failed. Actually, a bearing at the very end of the shaft had seized up. Over a period of years it sawed through the shaft. It finished sawing today. When it cut through it instantly released the spring tension on the failed side, and doubled it on the other. The cable that raises and lowers the door came loose, and whipped across the room like a martial arts device. The thump I heard was the cable smacking the tire. The door wound up with one side on the floor, and the other side 3 inches off the floor. In a genuine bound up tight position.
$300 later it is all fixed.
Glad I had the Rzr parked there.
If this garage door arrangement sounds familiar take a bottle of WD-40 or 3in1 oil and locate those bearings and lubricate them once a year or so. They are at either end of the shaft the springs are on, in a sheet metal bracket that supports the spring shaft assembly, right next to the pulleys the lifting cables run on.
This door assembly is 30 years old, I have never lubed those bearings before.
I won't do that again.

Surely not, nor should it. I like mine and wouldn't trade it for anything out there, right now. I plan on keeping it for a long time and believe that doing this is going to make my car more reliable, given the remote places that we go. When the trans case gets blown apart, it locks everything up and makes it very difficult to retrieve the car. It also means a new trans at 2600.00. I was told that there have been 8 cars in this area that this has happened to. Right or wrong, I needed to have this work done for my own piece of mind

Thanks. That's what I'm using. Just did the break-in service a few days ago. Alba Racing recommends it along with Polaris Demand Drive fluid, but they don't like Polaris engine oil. They use, recommend and have seasons of desert racing success with Maxima SynBlend 4 10W-40. I used that in a bike I used to have and my son sold a lot of it when he owned a bike shop in Roseville, CA, so that's what I'm going to use in mine. Amsoil seems to be at the top of the oil heap, but I think doing shorter oil change intervals than Polaris recommends eliminates the need for a full synthetic.

Getting back to the bearing issue...I plan to do an occasional oil analysis on engine oil and wonder if it would be a good idea doing an occasional analysis on the the trans/diff oil for an early warning for impending bearing failure? Might be worth a call to Blackstone Labs for their opinion.

In keeping with the thread subject, my UTV Inc. fire extinguisher quick release bracket and extinguisher just shipped. Arrives tomorrow.

What CanAm bags you using?

Their soft bag, they have hard plastic liners and locks on the bottom that match the bed, I got it when I bought it, it was like 200 bucks.

One thing you need to do when you make mounting brackets is to make sure that the top of the belt where it comes out of the plastic is below the top of the cross tube !!

The belts are made to pull up and go over the tube ,if you have top edge above the tube the belt rubs on the plastic and doesn't operate smoothly. You hold it in your hand see what I'm talking about.

Got a few things done on the new XDS . Got my FUTV skids installed, along with DIY front inner fender screens, Rugged intercom and radio, belt temp guage, DFR doors evo harness and mounts, Alba stage III ecu flash, Genright 500 lumen reverse lights and Racer Tech clean air intake. Hopefully I will get the winch installed this week, wire the dual wips, install the cat delete and exhaust.
Taking the clutches up to Roseburg Monday to have a custom Airdam clutch kit installed and the cage to Medford in a week to have intrusion bars welded in and re powder coat. Hopefully will get the shocks sent off before to long. Starting to see light at the end of the tunnel
Maybe I will get to drive it before Summer. LOL...

There is a company making a hard steel shim/plate/bracket thing that goes in there to keep that from happening. Airdam is making one too that is almost ready to sell. This has been a huge problem for racers. The clutches are on back order also.

Installed Bandit 46 Series shocks on the Trail. 2" more ground clearance and a ride that feels like there are actually shock absorbers installed. Really highlights how bad the stock Sachs are on the Trail model.

Yes , I think i only needed about 1/2" to make them clear but got 1 1/2" spacers . They are only for the sand tires so the extra 1" is good !!

Ed cant get the tire bead to sit in that little groove, get it almost on and the darn thing pops out somewhere else so have start over
Will try again but might let tire sit in sun to see if it will be more flexible

Each time I have mount my tires on beadlocks the tire sat down on the lip !! What is the problem ?, Is the tire to large and falls off the lip or to small to fit on the lip ?

Hard for me to see, but mine set on top of the lip and the ring compresses the bead against it. Can't tell with the pics.

The bead sits in that litle step down area and when I get all the way around to just 3 bolt hole are left to force the bead over it pops up somewhere else.
I have it set on a bucket with my knees holding the tire in place so it wont pop up somewhere and I just cant force it over and into that lip/groove area.
have gloves on cuse the tire is so damn slick with lube you cant hold it bare handed. will get some beter pics tonight when I try again
