Earlier might be better. A little snow is a lot of fun! Remember, most of the weekend it was really hot and this park only has 30 amp hookups, so trailers were really hot inside!

Love that area. We do a large ATV/UTV Jamboree in June every year. This year it's going to be in September when everything is in full color. It is a very well organized event.

lainracing: There is a ton of information on the Jamboree at easternsierrajamboree.com They are supposed to be adding a few more rides before the sign ups begin on March 11th. The popular rides fill up very quickly. Last year there were 233 participants. The Jamboree is extremely well organized. Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok so, the 27th 28th, 29th will give us open camp ground for more of us with larger trailers where on the weeken of the 14th many spots are already taken... The lake will most likely be full and so will the camp ground by then... So will move it to the 27th to the 30th...
They have changed there web sight and now require making reservations on line! It's advisable, Anyone with a large trailer or considering this ride should make a reservation asap. http://www.paradiseshorescamp.com

We won't have a spare seat in our rig, but I will have two kiddos looking for playmates around the campsites.

If anyone would like to keep the ride going and is willing to lead some rides you can keep the ride as scheduled !!

Thanks all... I have my reservations in and planing to make this run even if I have to ride shot gun.... I am having a tough time rt now and will finnish last kemo and rad treatment tomorrow! Even though it doesn't feel like it the dr's claim I'm doing better than most and anticipate a good recovery with final scan 3 months out! No worries
The rv park is small but a great spot.. It's a great time of year,the lake will be full and anticipate snow in the mt pass... Any one that has a res I recommend keeping it. The park called me a couple of weeks ago said two pull throughs got snapped up! I asumed that was Barb... I hope to see you all there!

I got an email back from Veronika, only a few spots left for short trailers. Also did a little more research on the camp spot right down the street (Bridgeport Marina campground), it appears the owner passed away a couple weeks ago and there is no one else to run it.
I'm sorry you didn't get something but you never know there might be a cancelation by then....
I have seen haulers occasionally parked off masonic rd about half way to the mine on the left. It would be primitive. There is also twin lakes campground in town..great place would have to trailer in or maybe call me and ill pick it up the night before with my deck.

Surely, someone in the group will have a trailer (not a toy hauler) that we could use to transport all the SxS's to Paradise Shores where most of us will be camping. Then the folks that have to stay in town can just leave their "cars" with us and commute from one RV Park to the other each morning in one of their trucks. I'll be happy to volunteer my truck to help with moving anybody's UTV over to Paradise, if that helps.
And by the way Alan, I'm really looking forward to the rides with you leading, and happy to hear how well you're doing!

We were going to go up for July 4th, well my mom was calling just to make sure our reservations were still good and the RV park Bridge Port reservoir campground is now closed, so if anyone was going to camp there they will need to find somewhere else.
Update, just read all the posts and someone else already posted the owner passed away.
I did some searching and found finding sites for that time period with hookups in that area is crazy booked... however Walker river resort out of Wellington has a few spots open for that time period. One could still meet up with us and ride out of the local trails there, its about a 20min drive. http://wrresort.com/page_002.html

Good road (US 395). No problem with my trailer. The camp site I had last year at Paradise Shores wasn't very big, but I got in and out OK.

It's smoky as hell right now......couldn't hardly see the snow on Patterson mountain on the way south this morning. Looks like some huge patches still left on the mountains could limit access this year.
the whole valley on the east side of the Sierra's is smoked out and hot right now....

Local news tonight called for afternoon thunder showers Sunday and Monday on the east slope down to Mono Lake. That should help clean the air some. And the fire went from 15% containment this morning, to 25% this evening. I think we'll be OK by next weekend.

We won't have a spare seat in our rig, but I will have two kiddos looking for playmates around the campsites.
Two 9 year-olds coming with us!! Should be fun.
Good news the wind must have shifted some as it is fairly clear sky's over the lake and top of paterson and to the east. cool weather in the higher elevations with patches of snow still. Temps in the mid 80's hotter towards Nevada but can change 20deg with a short ride up the hill.. the lake is full inflatables or kayak are great for the kids.. The park is small so be patient once you wiggle in and get settled its a great spot.
Did a quick pre-run around Paterson before heading to scope out mammoth area. It was passable but several snow drifts made it a challenge in spots.
Hope to see you all around the campfire.

fyi for those of you coming there is now a sheriff at Bodie and will ticket for not wearing a helmet. Pack or wear a helmet in that area. once in Nevada there not needed...The price to tour is $8 adult and $5 for kids. I believe most have been there so I do not plan to stop there just drive through on Saturday. Peeps that want to stop and tour are welcome or possibly drive up in car on sunday morning.. afternoon thunder storm possible so pack a rain jacket or small tarp to place over lap for short time. has been hot in afternoon Nevada side. Fridays plan to go up and around Mt Patterson but with snow and rockslide may take a bit longer... Tony and I was the first to loop so far this year., so a early start is needed gas is optional as should be near or at 100 miles. The rv park has fixed up a community area including bbq, sinks, several tables under shade cover for pot luck or party, including large fire pit...they have wood here. they also have paddle boat and kayak to use and rent paddle boards... bring life jackets if you want to use them...

We had a great time! Did 93 miles on Friday, and 105 on Saturday (a few more on Saturday for those that kept riding while Steve and I took the kids through Bodie).

My grandsons were talking about this yesterday! They will be really disappointed if this isn't an annual ride. Of course, Alan (AJB9) has to buy in, and this time I'll have all 3 grandsons along (and a two-seat General!).
I have been wondering if anyone would be up for this again this year.... I am considering moving it up to June though. I hate to say it but it possibly could be another dry year and I would rather trek a little snow than deal with the heat next to a dry lake. Maybe take in a few days at June lake and ride that area as well. Any thoughts on that?

The earlier the better as far as I'm concerned! I'd much rather have to bundle up to stay warm than fight the heat, and some snow is a blast!!

The Jamboree moved the date again for 2018. It is Sept 11th this year. The reason they had to change dates after 10 years is because there was a permit and grouse issue.

Absolutely right, Alan. There is no way you can predict the snow pack, or for that matter the rate of snow melt. June Lake sounds like a great addition to an already great ride. Unless something unforeseen or unavoidable comes up, count us in!! Uhhhh, by the way, which grandson do you want this year??? Just kidding!

Just my $.02, we will not even reach a normal snowfall this year, as the present forecast shows nothing half way thru January.
June lake is a must do for me this year.. the trails are a bit laid back but link to some of the mammoth area trails. The beach and lake are beautiful! A place where you bring the lawn chair and do nothing but hang out all day. The campground to use a ohv is dry ran by the forest service . it fills up quick in the summer so putting is a res well in advance on line is a must! There is another campground there with hookups but I found they are hard to deal with and they don't allow you to drive your ohv in and out... . There is a motel there but would have to trailer your rig. I"ll find the link to the fs campground and post it up.

unfortunately timing the snow pack melt to get over mt Patterson can be tricky this early but it is the high light of the ride. Last year we were first over it and that was mid July. so tentative I would say 6/20 to 6/23 Bridgeport then move to June lake 6/24 to 6/27 or so.... I fear that later in the season unless we start getting lots of rain Bridgeport lake will be near dry and we may as well go on the Yerington side and stay at Walker river resort in the fall. The eastern Sierra jamboree for many years was at end of June but moved to sept last year most likely for this reason, but we had a lot of snow last year. I would prefer not doing a ride at the same time there having the jamboree...

June is good! Later in the month would be better, the kids would be out of school! I've been dying to go ride around the Bodi area.

Bodie and surrounds makes for a great ride for the kids! With Alan's help, I've taken my two oldest grandkids (9 and 10) the last two years. They've seen and read all the stories about Bodie and its history, as well as the top of Mt Patterson and the other "ghost towns" and remains in the area. We are already looking forward (that's code for "being hounded by the grandkids") to this year's ride.

If it's June, I'm in! The only weekend that I can't do is that last weekend in October. I'll have the kids start reading up on it.

We can still go over mt Patterson but take in some of the yerington trails instead! It’s a much bigger park to camp at...still thinking6/20-23 ish looked into June lake possible the weekend before but maybe difficult to get res for a group there... most of the big sites are allready reserved at oh ridge...

Zoom out on the map slightly until you see Mt. Patterson, there will be a little icon over the summit. Click on that.
On a side note, I just received an email from Google saying it has been viewed more than 10k times!

Walker Rive in June is going to be pretty hot, but I'm always in for a camp trip there! They have a back corner that would be perfect for a large group.
I have not been successful clearing the summit in late may or early June.. agreed it is warmer at Walker river resort and usually much cooler at Bridgeport simply because of the higher elevations there... the Yerington trails can be a scorcher in the summer but mid June or late sept can be pleasant. The Nevada side is always hotter and trying to estimate a good time that the top of the summit is passable and hit the Nevada trails at the same time... I have stayed at Bridgeport lake in mid July simply for the great view, cooler weather and a occasional afternoon thunder storm over the lake. but Walker river resort simply has more room for us...

I've never been to Walker River Resort, but I just now went to their website and it looks like a very nice place! With 50 amp hookups, we can deal with hot by turning on the ACs. They also have a pool for the kiddos.
If you get the timing perfect, it will be pure luck! We have had major thunder storms the last two years at Bridgeport, but had an absolute blast nevertheless. I will enthusiastically go to either place, as you always lead great rides, Alan. Can't wait!

ok I'll start a new thread for June 21st 22nd 23rd Walker river resort... there is a lot of riding out there.. a lot of cool mines to see. Will get to mt Patterson with a few water crossings so bring gas and will get the party started!

You guys need to pick more dates over 3 day weekends for us poor working folks! We road in July, way too hot and the main breakers for power at all blew! Rode Halloween weekend and it was perfect! I'm always ready to camp there, So count us in. If we firm up a date and approximate number of sites, I will call and see if they are willing to cut us a break on the rates...unless any of you are Walker River members, then all your guests will get a huge discount!
