This car was actually scheduled to be dropped off and have the tranny mod done...

Yes it does,, they all share the same parts, even the factory turbo cars

If I have the OEM warranty, plus a 3 year extended warranty, wouldn't one or both provide me with a new trans?

Yes, warranty will take care of it.. but like I tell everybody .. warranty is not going to do you any good when you drive many miles to your favorite spot and take a week's vacation and if it pops out the case you're dead in the water..

That exact scenario happened to me in Glamis. First day of a 1 week camping trip. It happened on the first ride.
