You guys are welcome, lets give a huge shout out to Joe at Rugged Radios for making it happen as well! All radios (5 sets: 60watt/660+) that were ordered today will have the new channel programed into it. After a little training, we should be able to get all UTV Crazy Rugged Radio owners the added channel. Any and all who are at UTV Takeover we will try to get programed. See you there!

Sweet so when you order a new set up you just ask for that channel and it will come already programmed , I plan on getting a radio set up soon.

Yes, I believe that is correct. I believe that eventually they will be added at the production phase like all the other channels are. I did not request this to be a private add-on. Something to consider, but you never know how many Crazies will join in time!

Interesting that it is 155.160....

That is the same frequency as Rugged Radio's listed Channel 12 on Bank 1 and Channel 82 on Racer-X.....no biggy that it overlaps onto other usage of the same frequency.....happens all the time.

What I question is that this frequency is primarily designated for Search and Rescue activities, as stated in the Bank 1 and Racer-X of their 3/19/2014 VHF Mobile listing. I can also say it is used as THE Fire, Search, and Rescue for local governmental mutual aid in Lane County, Or.

While the Lane County usage has really no bearing on UTV Crazy riding activities here (except Cottage Grove, Oregon Dunes), it does veeify this frequency is a primary S&R usage frequency.

If we do have this frequency, we will need to verify we're not stepping onto local governmental toes before using in our favorite areas.....Dove Springs, Dumont, Ocotillo Wells, Shasta, Oregon Dunes, Quartzsite, Parker, etc etc etc.

I do request more info on this particular frequency from the powers to be.... ultimately the FCC possibly. If used, I feel we need to be vigilant in doing a radio check before our first ride in ANY area for a governmental overlap....JMO....I am a bit skeptical right now.

I wont use it. Here is a good reason why:http://forums.radioreference.com/california-radio-discussion-forum/67781-155-160-la-socal-area.html

We need to be using one of these with a PL tone:
1 151.820 MHz 11.25 kHz N/A
2 151.880 MHz 11.25 kHz N/A
3 151.940 MHz 11.25 kHz N/A
4 154.570 MHz 20.00 kHz Blue Dot
5 154.600 MHz 20.00 kHz Green Dot

There will be a little more interference and still be technically illegal unless power output is 2 watts or less , but at least nobody will be interfering with "Legit" licensed business/public safety users. The Rugged "Jeepspeed" channel is #1 on this list.

I hate to keep being a PITA on this matter, but I really don't want to be one who gets slapped a $10,000 fine and loose my amateur radio license......This is so easy peeps and I just don't understand why everyone wouldn't just want to comply. The process is complaint driven. No complaints/interference=No investigation.

LBR

Here's a list of Oregon licensees also, with Douglas County (Winchester Bay) 911 using as an emergency channel...this is a Search, Rescue, Fire, 911 etc channel.

Washington state as well.

I echo what Crazy Cooter said....we will not be using it neither.

From my channel list, 155.160 is already in the OEM Rugged file. #12 or NARESC is 155.160, but no PL on trans/rec. This would be a good freq if you were lost and a search time was looking for you. A lifelight chopper also might also be able to communicate with us in the event that someone in our party needs a ride out someday. For this reason, I also have the three VHF CLEMARS channels programmed in my radios..... Pretty much any public service agency has the ability to switch one of those if there is a mutual aid operation. Maybe we should use one of those for our own private freq?

I wonder where all the feedback was regarding channels when all the crazies were sitting around the campfire asking for a channel.... Wait? Maybe some were have a few drinks! LOL!! Got to be specific or we get what they give. Please let me know exactly what to ask for and I will get it. I know that he said it would be in the range of 150-155. But if you frequency gurus can give a few options by looking at the current Rugged Radio frequency chart and let me know, I will make sure it will happen correct this time. Thanks.

Thank you for everything, Don!....in the end, we will probably need to have FCC issue us a license rather than RR assigning us one. I personally want to see UTV Crazy compliant for our own, or just fall back on a preprogrammed in the Rugged Radio's like everyone does and cast it off as a super learning experience.

The ONLY frequencies unlicensed operators are allowed to transmit on the VHF band are the five in my post above.....and only at the listed deviation and a maximum of 2 watts power. MURS #1 is Jeepspeed. I'd use one of the other four channels with tone squelch enabled to help with garbage floating around on a public freq. Pot growers use MURS radios for perimeter alarms here.......

I don't see any problem using a frequency from Rugged Radio all long as it isn't one that is used by a public safety .

Okay, so what you are advising is to request that one of the below following, preferably the 2-5, be programmed to utvcrazy channel. I will contact my Rep today.

Any further input needed please reply to this thread as soon as possible. Thanks, Don

In my opinion since we all have been using RR frequency's for years with no fines or problems as long as the the one we get from RR ISN'T one that is being used by a Police or emergency service I don"t see where we would have a problem !! I highly doubt that any of the one's we have been using was issued by the FCC !! I don't think the FCC is out looking to fine a bunch of people out on a weekend ride unless we were inter fearing with some kind of emergency service !!

As I have said before, JeepSpeed is the only one we are allowed to use and is the only one we are guaranteed that public safety will not be using since it is for use by the general unlicensed public. Why not just use this one?

Yes any of those 5 are fine, but #1 is already in the standard program as JeepSpeed. If you want to use something other than what other Rugged owners use, one of the other 4 channels would be best. #'s 4 and 5 will sound better due to wider deviation.

Yes, I am now an official Rugged Radio programmer. I have the cable and the software and will be programing our new channel at upcoming rides. Once we have officially decided on a channel, we will have Rugged add them to the programing at time of sale. Have we all come to an agreement on what to use??

MURS Channel 4 or 5 with a PL tone of 94.8? Or program all 5 in there with tones so we will have options in areas with interference. Just tell me what you do so I can add it into my radios.

The Channel will be called UTVCRAZY. But I still have not got a chance to talk with CrazyCooter regarding the specifics of the channel. Once we get the specifics nailed down, you can order the radio through me "www.utvmods4u.com" (with a special price discount), or directly through Rugged. You will have to request that the UTVCRAZY channel be added.

I'm not necessarily looking for helmet communication. But I do like the radio and intercom combo. I would want a dash mount for sure. I guess I need to figure out what I want. Maybe I can scout someone's setup at the Johnson LN ride with pipelayer and make a decision. Do you have a forum discount or is the price I see the price I pay?

If you have passengers the intercom is the way to go, you don't have to yell to speak to each other and if you get the headsets it quiets down your rig so you can hear people on the radio a lot better also. You won't regret getting a complete kit if you go with it

You will need some way to mount the radio and intercom , the antenna you may be able to mount it in you roof but the also make some nice brackets to mount it lower down on the roll cage ( I like it better like this because it gets under trees etc easier) .
