View Full Version : Bridgeport lake Bodie Ghost town area ride July 28th 29th 30th

This is an area I am familiar with and stay at the Paridise shores rv park in Bridgeport on the lake. They have several rv spots and also rent a few furnished cabins for those without an rv. However they fill up quick so a reservation is a must!
The riding is mostly scenic back roads some tight spots but nothing to challenging. Those interested iBodie offers a park tour. There are many old ghost towns and mining camps in the area and even a hot springs. Most destinations are near 100 mile loops and depending on the participation could be longer. Packing some back up gas is a good idea!

This is a ride I want to go on. A couple of questions, 1 is the rv spots large enough for my 43 ft trailer? 2 are you planning on riding all three days so I can plan. I should know this afternoon if I can go for sure.

And can we ride directly from "camp", or do we have to trailer to a staging area?

I'm pretty sure that you can ride from there or Alan wouldn't be having the ride from there !! I know there are other rv places in the area you can ride from !!

Yes they have spots for your trailers.... Just tell the owners your with me or the Utv group and they will try to put us together on the lake front.. Plenty of room and nice camp spot with great view... Been there many times, ride out of camp till you run out of gas. I'm told the lake is finally up and is a busy place for fishing. The riding is good, Bodie is a cool well preserved ghost town that we should set aside a few hours to tour. There is a lot of history and things to see!

Sorry for the delay, my wife washed my iPhone... And dried it! ...
No worries! We're going for some fun and good times! There is a lot of history and great views with a little or a lot of riding which can all be done at your own pace... We'll talk about what you want to see. I'll show you the spots and back to camp before dark! I talked to the owner of the rv park a couple of days ago and he said the lake is up near the camp ground . But plenty of snow still in the hills. Will be going at a good time of year for that area!

If your phone is still conked out, take it into your local store and have them hook it up to dry....heard it salvages phones most of the time, so always worth a try.

No worries... We can do this on Friday .. Last I heard the park service was only doing the mine tour on the weekend but I will double check if I can get them to answer the phone.. I thinking if we can ride to Bodie early Sat even though it's might be busy.. spend a few hours there and ride the rest of the afternoon .. Thursday we can do a 6 hr ride along the river to the hot springs or leave early pack gas and make a long run outside of Hawthorn to a very unique mine camp on the mt called Bass Camp! Google it' either one is a great destination

The Blm trails start or used to start directly across the road till a few years ago a new neighbor moved in and he try's to claim it as his own, but it's not we cked if so he'd be fencing it... Even so it's not worth tiring to avoid the obsticals he lays out when you can simply run down the shoulder a 1/4 mile to the next one or run down the road like the locals do... Anyway head north towards the end of the lake to Masonic Rd on the rt... A couple of miles up that will be the old ghost town Masonic to ck out ...can't miss it. One of the mine holes is behind it... Continue up the hill and the trail splits about 5 ways most of them eventually come out to a main thoroughfare but if your planing to make a loop of it bring a map allow plenty of time and gas.
You also can leave camp towards town there is a trail on the hill above the road but it requires cutting through the Indian res and hooks to Bodie Rd. Although a doable link I don't care for it as its boreing and I don't like rolling through the Indian community! Call me cell service is spotty for att but version seams to work 209 nine six 9 4055

We'll go to mount Patterson up the back side through Belmont

That is a great plan, Alan. I Googled Belfort and it sounds like a cool place to see. I've been to Bodie before, and it is also an interesting destination. If I have to miss a ride on Thursday, the longest one would be my choice (those 100+ mile rides are hard!). Ol' "100 mile Ed" is usually merciless on me!

Sure am looking forward to seeing everyone!

Well I get it' my good ride buddy will be showing up at the same time as many others... In hopes to accomidate the general population perhaps will ditch the long haul ash 150mile ride to bass camp for a future stay out of Hawthorn area... We may still could do a late lunch by the river next to a hot springs and be back for dinner and relax time by the lake.. This is still could be in the 70-80 mile range with some great scenery along the way... There is plenty to see locally... By the way I couldn't get the picture to post but some one built out of stone a hot tub fed by the spring that is clean and ready to soak in should some desire! I have often considered bringing a inner tube or fishing in this spot of the Walker river.. Let me know your thoughts!
Ps.. Does anyone coming have access to some Utvcrazy tee shirts? I would like to purchase as gift to the rv park owners... Any wearable color ... men's xl, women's Med, and if doable infant 18month to 2yr???

Bridgeport lake Bodie Ghost town area ride July 28th 29th 30th
This is an area I am familiar with and stay at the Paridise shores rv park in Bridgeport on the lake. They have several rv spots and also rent a few furnished cabins for those without an rv. However they fill up quick so a reservation is a must!
The riding is mostly scenic back roads some tight spots but nothing to challenging. Those interested iBodie offers a park tour. There are many old ghost towns and mining camps in the area and even a hot springs. Most destinations are near 100 mile loops and depending on the participation could be longer. Packing some back up gas is a good idea!

Ok I called' not sure who said this but let me clarify... This park is no different than any of them when it comes to extra vehicles. If it reasonably fits in the confines of your space your good with respect for your neigbors and driveway or it goes into overflow! Which they have "some"... Not a lot but adaquit for most circumstances.. They are used to having people bring boat trailers, jeeps, and quads.. They do a great job to accomedate and see to it everyone that stays there has a great time...
Don't worry your good, if you were bringing ten rigs for your spot different story! I may even park my pu in overflow just to free up a little fun space!

Bring as much gas as you can to avoid buying gas in Bridgeport. The gas there is EXTREMELY expensive, even by Kalifornia standards.

I carry an extra 4 gals and don't anticipate needing it. Pushing it hard I get about 135mile range on stock tank. My buddy's Mavrick turbo seems to do a little better... Friday is the only day that if we make good time when we hit the summit I plan to roll all the way around the Mt... If so a rough estimate could be in the 120 mile range. I hate to see gas cans sloshing around in people's rigs though.. I will bring an extra roto pax to loan out should some one be concerned. There's gas in town a few minutes away but I would not advise driving a ohv there.

Well as much as I hate agenda's I will put one out there!
we have some showing up on Wed and some Thursday am. So in an effort for those to join in on Thursday I'm going to set the start time for 10am for the hot springs... if anyone is close or able to roll with in an hour of that I will leave directions for you to meet up with us on the trail. However please communicate with us that have come in on wed so we are not waiting for nothing!
friday: over and circle Mt Patterson full day line up at 8:30 leave as soon as we're all ready will roll...
Saturday : tour Bodie and some of the mines and ghost towns in the area... Again I'm going to set this time for 8:30... The park opens at 9am will spend a couple of hours there and head to Aurora for a late Lunch. Bodie gets hot in the afternoon and there is no shade. Everyone needs to bring $1 dollar bills for the Parking... Ranger Rick is present and doesn't seem to care if you change your oil in the parking lot as long as you pay to park! Without saying we need to tread lightly in and around the park! Not just to be curtious but because miners were not the most environmently friendly people....
There will be many photo ops on this run.. I will do my best to stop for them keeping in mind an adiquite pace for the amount of ground we need to cover... Again My # 20nine nine six 9 40 five five. You can allways call the rv resort and they will contact one of us.

So most of you that went on this ride know Richard hit that cement block out there on the trail messing up his RZR, it at the Polaris dealer waiting on review . I told him that will probably take a while , with all the recall stuff going on.

But most of you don't know when he was leaving Sunday morning , I was over there seeing them off, and the tires on his trailer were touching each other? I said to my Brother, that don't look right, they said it will probably get better when they hit the road, well they got about 10 miles and the tires started smoking[emoji51], so he had to turn around and leave the trailer and everything in Bridgeport, he went up a week later and pulled off two wheels per side and pulled it to RV dealer in Carson City, so far he really hasn't heard anything , but there sending a Engineer out to find out what went wrong. That's a bummer!

I suspect the tires are too big for the 33" spacing, the hangers were welded on at the wrong locations, the springs are broken/too long, or the center pin broke.

That was a new 3 axle Cyclone was it not? All the ones I have seen have 33" axle spacing. I also read recently that they are using Sailun S637 tires and they run on the large size that require 35" spacing or as the springs settle the tires would touch.

I assumed they had made the proper adjustments to run those tires but maybe not? Lance and Barb will find out soon enough.
