CALIFORNIA - Inyo National Forest Offers Over Snow Vehicle Workshop

Greetings BRC Action Alert Subscribers,

The Inyo National Forest is offering an Over Snow Vehicle (OSV) Workshop to hear ideas about the management of snowmobiles and winter recreation on the forest.

The workshop will be on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Town of Mammoth Lakes Council Chambers (Suite Z), Minaret Village Shopping Center, 437 Old Mammoth Road, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546. Suite Z is on the second floor, upstairs from Starbucks.

The forest is required to formalize their OSV plan through environmental analysis as part of the 2005 Travel Management Rule. Prior to scoping, the forest is asking for input regarding where snowmobile use is currently, where it should be, as well as how to best integrate snowmobiling with the suite of winter recreational opportunities available on the forest.

This is an informal open house designed to foster conversation and ideas. Forest Service staff will use these conversations to better inform the proposed action. Forest Service staff will have a series of maps for participants to review. Participants can stay throughout the open house or stop by as time allows.

The Forest Service expects to have a proposed action out in April, but would like your thoughts about snowmobile use at this time. If you have some ideas about snowmobile use, please let them know! This is not a formal comment period, so your input at this point does not give you standing for objections. There will be future opportunities during scoping and comment periods for more formal comment.

There are several ways to contact them and let them know your thoughts. You can go to the project website and click "Comment on Project" on the right side of the screen. You can also use an interactive map to provide site-specific ideas by clicking here - or contact the Inyo National Forest Assistant Forest Planner Erin Noesser at elnoesser@fs.fed.us, (760) 920-0381 or at the Inyo National Forest, 351 Pacu Ln., Suite 200, Bishop, CA 93514.

Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
