CALIFORNIA - Reminder of Public Workshop Regarding Proposed Changes on Over-Snow Vehicle (OSV) Use
Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,
This is a reminder that the Stanislaus National Forest is hosting its second public workshop regarding proposed changes on Over-Snow Vehicle (OSV) Use Designation on Thursday, February 18, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Best Western Plus, Sonora Oaks Hotel & Conference Center.
This facilitated workshop (located at 19551 Hess Avenue in Sonora, CA.) will: focus on reviewing the draft alternatives; offer information on the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process; and, allow the public an opportunity to continue dialogue related to Over-Snow Vehicle Use Designation on the Stanislaus National Forest.
The Stanislaus NF, along with four additional forests in the Pacific Southwestern Region, is undertaking this analysis to improve management of OSV use and to designate a system of OSV trails, including groomed trails, and to meet the required terms of a settlement agreement between the Forest Service and Snowlands Network, Winter Wildlands Alliance and the Center for Biological Diversity.*
Although an R.S.V.P. is not required, it is requested. Please contact Phyllis Ashmead, project coordinator at: 209-532-3671 ext. 322 or email at pashmead@fs.fed.us. For further forest information, call: the Stanislaus NF Supervisor's Office at:* 209-532-3671; Calaveras Ranger District (RD) at 209-795-1381; Groveland RD 209-962-7825; Mi-Wok RD at 209-586-3234 or Summit RD at 209-965-3434.
In reviewing the DRAFT Proposed Action for OSV Designation, please consider the following questions: Have we missed any major areas or routes that historically have been used by snowmobiles? If so, where and how are they being used? Is the DRAFT Proposed Action clearly stated and mapped?* If not, how can it be improved?
*It is important for OSVers who have knowledge of historical-use patterns to attend the meetings and "ground-truth" the proposed action maps!
Thanks in advance and, as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
