We are liking this idea, especially the FULL HOOKUP! I am assuming that a lot of the rides that you did last year are around this area? If so, count us in and please add us to the list!

We didn't explore to far..we had snow and in single digits half the time we were there..we may leave on Tuesday or Wednesday to head to Sand Mountain to help EPL hold spots along the fenceline

Having lived in NV since 1992, I have found that Oct/Nov weather can often be mild. This winter was the exception, however. Looking at the Farmer's Almanac regional forecast for the October 2016 timeframe it said this:
"Winter temperatures will be much above normal, with precipitation near normal in the north and below normal in the south. The coldest periods will be in mid- and late December, late January, and mid- and late February. Snowfall will be above normal near Reno but below normal elsewhere, with the snowiest periods in early and mid-December, early January, and mid- and late February."
I also read that we will be going back into a La Niña weather cycle, which calls for less precip during the winter months. Maybe this October will be t-shirt weather in the high desert.

No particular area, we have only been there once and we were kinda snowed in..some of the time
I did a run in this area last year! We staged outside of Fallon gassed up in Gabbs continued east to a small ghost town called Belmont... Camped off the rigs in the campground there also there is a bar with food. A few people have taken up residency there renovating the historical ghost town and court house! I talked to a guy there that claims the trail from there northbound threw the canyon towards Round mt links into a trail that follows the ridge that would lead us to Austin. Which is not to far from cold springs. Any of the trails in the 3 mt ranges to the south of there I'm told is great riding but seasonal because of the high elevation.
I would be interested to hook up on this run..

Have rode there a few times. Mostly as a follower and no clue where we went except for Gabbs. Got fuel there for the trip back. Have rode on both sides of 50 and was even buzzed by a fighter jet in the valley. Enjoy the area, good scenery and friendly ranchers we met. i am sure we will be at Cold Springs this year as long as RZR recalls don't keep us down.........

We had to change our dates we will be arriving on the 13th and then leaving on the 16th for Sand Mountain to help reserve the fenceline

I would like to make this trip. One of the best rides I've ever done was cold springs to Tonopah. It was about a 260 mile trip. 13 hours. Had my old Commander it was nice when it got dark that thing through a lot of heat in the cab

Cold Springs has several RV sites when we stopped in last week and checked on if we needed to make reservations, the lady said that there would be several available so we didn make reservations since we are not sure what trailer we will have at that time

Yes, this place is a mini-everything.... they have that small motel, a few cottages, RV park with some15A hookups, a row of 30A, and a row of 50A is what we remember....convience store, restaurant, pool table, bar, extremely clean rest rooms with showers that don't need quarters. This would be a hoot for a week to ride out of as a destination park instead of just a stopover for SM.

Yea, talked to them yesterday. Made a reservation, but they just said we got a spot for you when you get here, no deposit or anything. They don't have 50amp, but they do have 40amp, seems weird, but they said 30 or 40, and of course 15.

That's kinda what I think as well, but the lady I talked to kept saying sorry, we just don't have 50A, only 40A, LOL!! We will know soon enough.....
Hahaha...then that means you'll have to hook your coach up to 2-20A 120V duplex outlets....I wanna see your wiring configuration on that one!

I went and did some downloading of Geocaches also, which will take us to some to some cool places
I don't know about getting to Belmont and back in one day and do anything but drive Barb... A closer look it's still well over 100 miles each way. It's doable just throwing it out there.., there's several cool canyons and stops to the south that would head you that way to the gas stop in Hadley. Belmont is an additional 30 miles to the east over mt Jefferson mt range. There is a B&B saloon and campground that I tented at once. More centrally located is Kingston creek canyon. Possible on your next stay, There a B&B restaurant bar, camping, lake and a few RV spots. This would be a great place to stop and check out. If you gas up and skip Belmont and head back west through Opher creek canyon drops us close to the Berlin Ichthyosaurs state park. Not sure what's there but sounds interesting. This would be kinda an all day figure 8 run that most likely have geocaching on!

Had a great ride..
I almost got our venison meat for the next few years..
Screamed like a little school girl as we we were going through sage brush as high as us..Kevin said there were some deer on our right side... So I looking don't see anything and then BAM..I jumped 3 SLAMMED on the brakes just as the 4th, 5th. & 6th ones were about to come across in front of us...That was the closest I have been to hitting a deer in my lifetime..

We stayed at Cold Springs Pony Express station and it was 3 hours east from camp..
Its not feasible from Sand Mountain

Am embarrassed for not thanking everyone who joined in at this run...THANX!
I put a GPS waypoint in at that Fossil Museum where the whale skeleton is...6,939' above current sea level...so freaking awesome to imagine the water level there at some point in time.
Another Thanx to Ajb9 who did the mapping of a couple routes....he would steer the ride, whether leading or at the back of the pack, via radio...awesome Allan!!
