Need help on picking week-end in April that most can join in on the Crazy-Fun time we will have

Would Love to have Jeff {AKA} Pipelayer blaze the trail for us from Johnson Lane to Virginia City and then some

As always will have B.B.Q and Music at Neil and Debs on Saturday after Ride

It's very hard to predict the best weekend. We've had rides cancelled at the very last minute because we couldn't get over the summit! We've also had rides that were really dry and dusty! If we have a dry winter/ early spring, then I'd suggest April 2-3. But if we really do get an el nino, then much later in the month (say 23-24) would be best.

And for those of you who haven't joined us before, the BBQ/potluck/karyoke at Neil and Deb's is just as much fun as the ride!

The same weekend that we saw that rainbow cloud (by far the best one I've ever seen!), we also saw a Golden Eagle and more wild horses.

We have to keep a fairly brisk pace as it could be 80 to 100 miles to be traveled and 12 miles of it will be very slow. The distance that we travel will depend on the time that we have.

Several of us usually camp at the staging area as well. It is plenty big enough, only requires about 100 feet of dirt road, and since it is all BLM, totally legal. And it's about 5 minutes to Neil and Deb's house.

We have camped right at the end of Johnson Lane several times. Definitely not fancy, but lots of room. There's also a very nice RV park out on 395 (about 4 miles from the staging area) just north of Johnson Lane.

I have a few questions. 1 is this a round trip ride back to Johnson Ln. Or are we finishing up in VC?2nd does anyone have a map showing the route? last time I was up in VC I was thinking it would be cool to go riding around the gold hill area. I also just heard that they cleaned up the American flats. So put me down for this ride.

The one thing I can answer is that it is a round trip back to Johnson lane !! At the previous Silver Strike rides there has been a potluck on Saturday night after the ride , not sure about this year !!

Johnson Lane ride will begin and return to Johnson Lane. It's too much logistics for everyone to have to trailer back from another location. Crossing Hwy 50 is not a big deal with a few rigs, but if we have 20 or thirty, we will attract the wrong kind of attention. It will also be unsafe. If enough people want to do VC on the second day, I'm totally up for that.

Great, so I have a basic route that is about 90 miles that the ones that don't want to continue, can go back to the trailer and the die hards, I have another 30 miles that we can do to top it off. Last weekend, me, Manny and Bill, each used 6 gallons to do the 90 miles. I don't know what mark used an David ran out of gas, two miles from the truck. It's only because he has a 900 4 w/ 1000 motor and a 7 gallon tank. I have another 50 or 60 miles that we can do in VC for the following day.

Mike, there is huge flat area that is about 1/4 mile in and the road is fairly smooth. I'm still up in the air about taking the TH. Depends on what everyone else is doing. Usually, we just ge a hotel room, especially if we're doing two locations. It's not much of a move. About 30 to 40 min.

First, welcome to the site!

I'll take a shot at the answers, but I'm not admin or anything like that.

I can't think of a single ride that isn't wife friendly! This is a family oriented group, and that includes wives, kids, grandkids and dogs!

The assembly site (meet up) for this ride is really simple: south of Carson City on US 395, in the Minden area, is a well marked, east west road called Johnson Lane. Go east about 4 miles and the pavement will end. That is the assembly area!

Lodging is available in several casinos/hotels in Carson City. I personally hate hotels, and love my trailer. My wife and the dog and I will be camping right at the end of Johnson Lane at the assembly area. It's all BLM, so totally legal and acceptable. This will be about our 4th or 5th time there.

Leo and I started this ride many years ago, and one of the best parts is the BBQ/potluck at Neal and Debbie's house. They live about 5 minutes from the assembly area, and you can drive your sXs from "camp" right to their house!

I'll defer to Leo and Barry Ed, this is their ride and I don't want to break the tradition. I myself will probably stay in a hotel because of the two day, two venue ride, makes it manageable. The hotels are 15 to 20 min from both locations. Some may only choose to do Johnson Lane only. The die hards are definitely going to want to do both.

One question I have is for the guys who stay at hotels, how are you keeping your machine secure on an open trailer? I usually take our toyhauler but thinking about staying a night in hotel or casino, just not sure about rzr safety on open trailer at night.

Just a heads up my wife is a bowler and there's a bowling tournament in Virginia city all of all of April and into June so if your going find a hotel room you need to start looking now this is a large tournament they will book rooms from Reno to Carson city.

If you continue south on Hwy 395 for about a mile and a half there's a Basque restaurant called JT Bar on the right side of the road just past Sharkey's Casino. They make a darn good Picon and the food is outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

I have a state exam on the 10th, but hopefully there will be more rides up there because my schedule opens up after that. plus I was just put on grave shift for the next year and I have a feeling im going to burn a lot of my 400 hrs of vacation. 50-89-88 is my choice, especially with a trailer. Look for traffic eastbound on Friday night, though. The traffic on Sunday heading west can be frustrating, too.

The problem with Kingsbury is having to go through the stop and go of South shore traffic.

There are some spots you can go wide-open

Other than that, I am very slow, ugly, old fat guy, so just take-em off we can just cruise,rides better with-out-em any-way

How are the trails? Any parts that I will have trouble with ground clearance with my EPS Trail? Spend last night replacing a driver side a-arm. Hit a boulder in middle of trail that I did not see. Had to beat the hell out of the mounting bracket to get new one in. It's not pretty but pivot points are fine.

I did the Virginia City Ride earlier this year and the Silver Strike pre-ride with Pipelayer before the lift with the Bandit shocks. No damage to my Trail. Not to say it couldn't happen. Just have to pay attention and pick the line that works best for you.

Just installed my radio and intercom today, this coming drive pushed me over the edge to order. I didn't have one for VC and i figured it'd be nice to hear what's going on. What channel do you use? I got the radio from Rugged so it has all their pre-programmed channels.

Yeah, you're going to like having a radio. Makes it nice on large groups. We usually run Bajapits.

Smith Valley here. I bought Dirt Commander 27x9x12 for all four with a spare on the stock wheels. I like and have Big Horn's on a quad, but their sidewalls aren't as stout as the 8-ply DC's.

I considered the Mongrels, but having heard more than a few negatives on their sidewall strength I decided against them and went with Dirt Commanders. The Pro Armor Crawlers and the Tensor Regulators seem to have a good reputation, too.

I really like the Big Horn 2's on my 660 Grizzly, though. No problems with them.

I went with the Dirt Commanders RM price matched Discount tire plus still received RM Cash. I wanted to go with Tensor Regulators but think I'll need new clutch to keep performance and I'm still in warranty until August. Add me to the list!

I went with the Tensor Regulators 28x10x14 and just got my clutch kit from SLP hoping this week end i can install them 16981699

I plan on going to a Tensor 28 or 30 x10x14 on a 5+2 wheel for my turbo. I hadn't considered needing a mod to the clutch to run them, I don't believe they are that much heavier than the big horns are they?

The Tensors are 38 lbs plus 2 inches taller The DC 27/9-12 are 25 lbs and an inch taller than my stock PXT's
