I couldn't open the link Leo, but it's at 100 N E st Virginia City. There is parking on the street between the Hotel and the museum. If you want to park in the hotel parking lot, they ask for 5.00 to park for the day. The people that own the hotel are rally nice and are SXS riders as well.

It's a little bit different this time Manny, hopefully the snow will melt a little bit by then, we will go west, over the hill on different trails and will finish by going through the Dayton loop backwards. You'll like it.

Hey, even a picture using your phone aimed at the Garmin would be cool. I'd like to get an idea of the rout and am testing a new app to use for navigation but wanted some reference before the ride.

Yeah that's for sure Ed, I gassed it up and put 8 1/2 gallons in it. Next week is gonna be cool. I have about 120 miles mapped, but have places where those that don't want to do that much, can skip. I've got some really cool spots planned for Group photos.

So, I should bring extra gas for the entire 120 mile loop? 60's and 70's from now through the 9th and 10th in Carson with no rain in the forecast.

I usually set up camp right there at the end of the pavement. I may have to join the ranks of the "hotel stayers" this year. My hauler is in the shop. But there is plenty of room right there at the end of the pavement for 4 or 5 trailers.

Definitely would a agree if I had a safe way to mount spare gas, I would. Just know there is no way the turbo is going 120 without a top off and would love to do the whole thing. Anywhere to park my truck up on the trail where the first loop intersects the cross over to the eastern loop(that spot 5 minutes from camp) with a gas can before we take off in the morning?

I carry a 2 gallon fuel container in the bed of my turbo all the time. As long as you have a good container (not one 5 years old) and strap it down good there is no problem . And put it on the opposite side of the bed from the exhaust .

No, the radios are commercial grade but I believe they are preprogrammed for amateur frequencies so no need for a license. You can't change the frequencies without a programming tool so you can't start poking around outside of the amateur bands.

I have the 50 watt VHF radio from rugged radio. The Vertex VX2200. I've found some other forum threads that state a license is required above 5 watts but that the desert racers generally don't bother getting the license.

We used 5 watt radios at race track never bothered with licences. I did do some reading FCC requires licence anything over .5 watts. GMRS licence $90 good for five years. Unless there are complaints I doubt FCC even pays attention

Come to find out i have a sticky clutch, buttons and rollers are bad in my primary and parts won't be here in time to fix it up!! So I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!! and hopefully it works out for me on the next one .
No need for a ham license to operate these radios as 95% of users are not individually licensed neither. The closest ham band is 144-148 Mhz called the 2 Meter band, and all of the 92 pre programmed Rugged Radio racing/etc. frequencies are between 151-155 Mhz.
While not 100% legal, you will be fine for using these radios. Loosely speaking, RR has cleared the way to sell you their radio and allow you to use it "unerneath their license" so to speak.

I know, everyone was worried about the weather, and the weather was what made it , over the top, fun. Besides that, the twelve mile trek down the creek bed is going to keep your mind off of the weather.

New guy here so don't beat me up too much ... lol It appears a few are bowing out do to the weather and or others things.
I don't have a good excuse to not show up for this ride , except for I just got my trailer and getting it set up to haul the rzr its an open Aluma UT12 ,,, after 3 months of delays , lied to and finally getting one, I wished I'd went ahead and gotten the UT10 instead.
I have the extra 2.5 feet out back and it will really look ridiculous when I have to haul the Harley...
Sooooo... Just throwing it out there... I started a thread over in the Pacific West section..
Alternative if anyone can make it we'll be headed over to Sand Mountain the following weekend the 15-17th...

The latest for Saturday, which agrees with the aviation forecast for the area...
Showers in the morning evolving to a more steady rain in the afternoon with thunder. High of 53F. Afternoon/evening snow levels down to 7500'. Might wear my Gerbing jacket liner.

You got me interested because I've always felt it's best to respect the potential power of water, and I had the thought of sitting at a creek crossing for a few hours waiting for water levels to go down, so I did some googling. Check out this map from from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It's flash flood guidance. It doesn't include our region, but a quick look at the guidance will bring some perspective.
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/rfcshare/ffg.php?location=NAT&zoom_map=state&duration=1
Tomorrow the highest forecast I've seen is up in Tahoe at a projected 0.5 inches of water for the whole day. The cities surrounding our ride are in the 0.45 to 0.3 ballpark, for the whole day. Set the guidance map to 1 Hour Flash Flood Guidance and then look at the bottom of the scale. All the purple places on the map where 0.6" of rain falls in 1 hour have the potential for a flash flood. Notice how you don't see any purple on the map. We expect less than 0.6 over the entire day. I'm guessing it's no problem.

Weather Underground (Wunderground) has an app called 'Storm' that has a flood warning selection as one of it's layer options. No flash flood warnings indicated.

I'm not worried now, but it won't hurt to take a look at the situation in the morning. The link I have direct to the aviation forecaster indicates the heavier rain and thunderstorms won't be until later in the day. I don't think flash flooding will be an issue in the morning.

In checking the forecaster's comments this morning, the thunderstorms, when they develop later in the day, are forecast be north of Hwy 80. Currently at 6am this morning, there is no rain at any of the aviation terminals in the area other than at South Lake Tahoe where there is light rain.
I think we're good to go the Brunswick canyon drainage this morning.

Great ride, Jeff. Johnson Lane has always been one of my favorite places to ride, all because of the diversity. Your route showed us all of it! Through the mountains and thick Cypress and Juniper forests, down creek bottoms and through the cottonwoods, up the rocky hills, and then out into wide open flats. Good times.

Thanks Jeff for a great ride lots of fun we had a little bit of everything you could ride in but the mud bog on the way back was wild. When your 4 wheel drive doesn't feel like it's working it was fun. Thanks again for a great ride.

Rained so much at the house Saturday that I needed 4WD the last half mile. Almost didn't make my yard. Hosed off the rigs in the rain. I think I'm not liking mud right now...and its raining again tonight. Dust. Yeah. That's better.
