Is a radio something to look into?

It's not necessary to have one as we wait at intersecting roads for the guy behind you. It's kinda nice for a few to have them so that if someone in the back is having trouble, it can be radio'd to the front. And it allows you to be in the loop of the playful banter.

They usually keep it cleared an sanded as most of the people that work in Reno commute that way. If it gets too bad, you can go up up the truck route from the Carson side. All of these storms that we've been getting feet of snow, they've just been getting inches.

Spoke to a friend of mine that went riding up there yesterday and he said that they have about six inches of snow and it's very cold. Lows in the teens and expected snow showers from Wednesday thru Friday. He said that the riding was perfect.

Question: maybe this has already been addressed but I've only read about 75% of the thread pages. If it snows Saturday but not Fri/Sun, for the folks staying in Reno, is the drive out to VC going to be difficult/dangerous in bad weather? (I've driven tons in the snow, but not with a trailer as much.)

Hey Jeff if the road going up to VC is real bad do you think we should have a back up plan where to stage, I think going over the pass wont to too crazy with chains but that road up to VC is real steep.

Yeah Pat, there is an off road staging area I Washoe that those that don't want to dive up to VC can meet us. We will get there at around 9:30 or so, depending on if we have any trouble getting over the first hill.

A few afternoon snow showers now in the forecast for Carson City area (getting better). I may trailer the RZR to VC Saturday morning and go home Saturday evening. Is there pickup with 16' trailer parking at the VC hotel? Also, will this ride end at VC Saturday eve or will it end in Reno?

I am leaving Cameron Park Friday, returning Sunday. Will probably head up Hazel through Roseville, then up 80. Staying at Grand Sierra. Probably leaving about 2pm on Fri, weather dependent.

Silver land is on E st. That's where we can park on either side of the road. It's like 150' from silver lands parking lot. I talked to the guy that owns the property across the street from that and he's ok. Silver land want 5.00 to park there if you're not staying there. Plenty of room.

I was just up there for New Years and there's lots of snow. You guys should have a blast.

I'd love to go back up but we have a ton of stuff to do to get this house ready to list.

I think we decided on moving to Fernley or Dayton. Either one is real close to sand mountain!!!

I intentionally waited on booking a room. Right now the local news is saying conditions will be dry Friday, so we could probably get into Reno or Carson City OK. But another storm is supposed to drop a good amount of snow from late Friday night through Saturday; getting home could get very interesting! I really want to make this ride, but I don't even own chains for my truck.

Barry, the hwy 80 is always faster especially from your place. The road up from Carson side to VC is better than the Reno side. The roads look good up here now. There is barely two inches of snow in Carson and I'll bet Reno is about the same. The grade up from Reno isn't that bad, IMO Just really winding. So far only calling for a dusting of snow on Saturday. If I didn't live up 50, I would take 80.

I know with good weather it takes about 35 - 45 Min .

I would probably give yourself 45min or so, maybe 55min for Barry( JK) I have a friend in Dayton that commutes to Reno to work and takes her 55 minutes to go around through Carson to Reno and going over the grade, it takes her 45..

If it doesn't snow, Geiger is fine just really winding. I think going up will be fine but going down, might be kinda sketchy. The best way to go up is the truck grade from the south side. As for me, I would go up and down that grade right now.
